M&S Case Study

ECG Facilities Services were awarded the contract to carry out the mechanical services upgrade for this major chiller plant upgrade at Marks & Spencer’s store in Newcastle.Due to the fact that the project was being undertaken on the shopping centre roof, there were many additional health & safety requirements to the project and the need for very careful co-ordination of services.  In addition there were two major craneage operations to complete, which required both road closures and completion of such operations before the shopping centre opened.ECG’s mechanical installation team undertook the construction of the new steel platforms for the chillers, the installation of all new chilled water flow and return pipework, new twin chilled water pumps, inclusive of integrated pressurisation unit and a major upgrade to the system controls. All exposed pipework was fully trace-heated, insulated before the system was pressure tested and fully commissioned. All works were completed within budget and the desired time frame.

Fabrication of new chiller supporting steelwork, installation of 250m of chilled water flow and return pipework, new chilled water pumps with integral pressurisation unit and new controls.
